Have you started drinking hot cocoa yet?  Have you pulled out your scarf?  Here in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks we certainly have!  The mornings are frosty and there are crisp, clear skies over the peaks!  We have even had our very first dustings of snow.  Why not come play in the snow with us this winter?  Get ready for a naturally magical holiday season in the national parks.  We’ve picked the most picturesque seasonal trails for  memory-making experiences.   We’ll provide sturdy snow shoes and an expert guide for our fun EdVentures.  Please email us at SFI@sequoiahistory.org for more details.  You can sign up for these trips at www.sequoiahistory.org.  We look forward to seeing you on the trail!

March 9, 2013  Climbing the Hump
The High Sierra, the alpine and subalpine regions of Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks account for the majority of these parks. And you want to see them – in the winter.  We are lucky to have the Pear Lake ski hut to make exploring more comfortable for those of us who prefer a bunk to an igloo. But what about THE HUMP with its 2200’ elevation gain in just 2.5 miles? Well, let’s go check it out! This will be challenging full-day trial of our winter travel skills as we make our way to the top where we will meet the Pear Lake hut caretaker. After a well-deserved rest and replenishing lunch, we will head back to the trail head confident in our ability to travel safely, snow or shine, into this winter wonderland.  Limited to 10 participants.  $55 members/ $63 non-members.  Rated:  Strenuous.  Expert guide and snow shoes included.

These and more trips will be available in 2013.  Watch www.sequoiahistory.org for more information.  All proceeds from our trips support education and resource protection in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks.
